Ford to Sell Solar Panel System Alongside Electric Cars
Now I think this is definitely a step in the right direction. American car companies have been for too long playing catch-up – it’s nice to see them leading the way on something for a change.
The solar panel system is a $10k add-on, but someone in the comments section calculated that it would take five-and-a-half years to pay off the panels.
I don’t see this catching-on with the masses anytime soon. It’ll most likely be picked up by treehuggers/environmentalists in the meantime. But it’s something that I can definitely see becoming a lot more widespread in the future. Electric vehicles seem to be the next logical step for automobiles – they are by far the cheapest practical alternative energy offered in modern-day cars.
I’m interested to see other upcoming developments on this front. Hopefully some sportier alternative-energy vehicles.
