When I look at the state of education in the US today, the celebrity gossip plastering newsstands, and the people who want Palin to be President, I worry about our future.
And then I talk to my peers, and just listening to their life stories, their goals, and their desires to better the world, I am reassured that things won’t be as bad as some try to paint it.
Yesterday, I didn’t have many classes (TGIF), so I spent most of the day hanging out, getting food, and just chatting with very interesting people.
There are some amazing people at Cal (and this isn’t just limited to Cal, of course). These people are the most dedicated, ambitious, and smart people I have ever met. They want to learn. They want to be successful. But most importantly, they want to make an impact.
When I listen to their stories and their hopes and dreams, I’m speechless. They inspire me to be the best I can be. They encourage me to make an impact myself.
What’s crazy is that these people aren’t even necessarily older than I am. It’s humbling. It makes me glad that I was given this opportunity to attend Cal, that I get to interact with these types of people.
I plan on making the most of my stay here so I can take the things I learn and make an impact. What impact exactly I don’t know yet. But I do know that there is reason to be optimistic about the future, because we have the power to better the world if we make the effort.
