As I look back at this past year, I’m blown away by all the noteworthy things that have happened in my life. From my last semester of college to my trip to Europe to the start of my first job and move to SF (and everything in between), there are just too many things to be thankful for. I have to constantly remind myself of the many opportunities that come my way and to never take these opportunities for granted.
At the same time, this year has been a challenging year – like any other year but with its unique rough patches and obstacles. One thing that I’ve come to realize more is that smooth sailing is an ideal, much easier pictured than achieved. And personally, I’d be very uncomfortable if I ever reached that point – to me smooth sailing suggests that I’ve become complacent and that things are coming to me too easily.
One of my favorite quotes is “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”
I think this quote is the most practical and essential way to live – to understand where others are coming from and to appreciate this wonderful and transient thing we call life. We’re all imperfect human beings striving for impact and legacy, whether big or small.
There’s still a month to go for 2013 – let’s continue to count our blessings and live life to the fullest! And as 2014 rolls around, let’s continue to fight the hard battle and remember to extend our collective helping hand.
