One of the more enlightening reads I’ve come across on Facebook (and the Internet in general) was written recently by a Berkeley professor in an email to his students and posted to Reddit. Reading this, I felt like this teacher was sharing a lifetime’s worth of experiences, in a way that didn’t feel belittling or trite. I sensed a genuine concern for the well-being of his students, and a trust that this new generation was just as capable as past generations to make a marked difference in the world.

There are a lot of articles these days blasting the sad state of the current generation of millennials, from its tech-obsessiveness to its inability to do real work. In a mere six pages, this email resoundingly proves that regardless of the generation or time in history, humans do have the potential to achieve far-reaching and lasting things. What a breath of fresh air! I’ve never had this professor at Cal nor have I met him, but Professor Alexander Coward, thank you sir for writing this and stating the truth. I enjoyed this read and I hope my readers do, too!
