This past weekend, I went on a trip to Lake Tahoe with some friends from ABA. We spent two days doing a bunch of fun activities, enjoying the amazing scenery, and eating good food. Sounds like my kind of trip.
On Saturday morning, nine of us – Jay, Karen, Angela, Alan, Jared, Ingrid, Daisuke, Kim, and me – met up at Underhill and embarked on our three-hour drive to Tahoe. We made a quick stop at McDonald’s and Safeway, arrived at Tahoe on schedule, and ate at a restaurant called Sprouts (healthy, vegetable-heavy food). Of course I ordered one of their few dishes with meat – the real Tahoe turkey sandwich.
After lunch, we walked next door and rented out paddle boats – we were going stand up paddleboarding. Stand up paddleboarding (SUP), the way I’d describe it, is a like balancing on a giant surfboard/boat combo and using a paddle to move and steer. It took a bit to get used to the balancing, and we all fell into the lake quite a few times. Still, it was a lot of fun, especially when steering into waves and trying to keep your balance at the same time.
We had a blast and headed out a couple of hours later to catch an evening showing of a Shakespeare play (The Two Gentlemen of Verona) at an outdoor theater with the lake as a backdrop. The entire setup was amazing – you could see the mountains, water, and sun in the background. Plus, the play itself was a lot more interesting than I had initially expected. Great actors, good story, and a new take on a Shakespeare play (they added songs in between acts).
The next day, we drove to Squaw Valley for lunch and bike rentals. Enjoyed a Whiskey Mushroom Burger at The Auld Dubliner, and rented out bikes after lunch for a couple of hours. The ride was great – I really enjoyed the scenery along the way – we biked on a trail next to a creek, and made a lot of stops to enjoy the view and take pictures. The terrain wasn’t too bad, but there were definitely some uphill parts – we were pretty beat afterward, but agreed that it was worth it. After a quick rest, we headed back home.
The drive back was tough – my car’s AC was broken, and Sacramento and Davis were unbearably hot. But we survived and met up with the people in the other car back at Berkeley to enjoy a final trip dinner at Pho K&K. Overall, I had an amazing time this weekend. The trip definitely felt way longer than two days, and we fit in a lot of stuff in such a short amount of time, which was quite impressive.
Looking forward to future trips with you guys! Thanks for the fun times and awesome memories!
