“Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
I have no idea how that quote relates to the restaurant itself, but it’s a fitting quote to remind you guys of Forrest Gump’s charm in the 1995 movie.
Whoever thought up the idea of starting a restaurant after the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Forrest Gump is a genius. Add in a whole bunch of movie merchandise, have the movie on endless loop throughout the restaurant and gift shop, and you have yourself a cash cow.
How does the restaurant stack up? First of all, the place was packed. Makes sense since it’s located at Pier 39, a tourist hotspot in SF. We waited about half an hour, took our places at the table, and ordered some appetizers.
For my entree, I chose the Shrimp Po’ Boy, a proclaimed “authentic Louisiana” specialty. In a bit, my plate came, with a French bread loaf filled with popcorn shrimp and surrounded by fries and coleslaw.
After slathering the sandwich in hot sauce and ketchup, I downed my food, enjoying every last bite. It was delicious, and very satisfying. It was such a good dinner that I didn’t even have room for dessert.
